My Report

Posted by admin on June 2, 2008

On the evening of January 21, 2007, I was recording at my engineer’s studio. I went downtown with Erin Hanner and son with the intention of picking up a check from my manager, Ron Miner, and then continuing on to our home in Terre Haute, IN. I also wanted to talk to my manager about our performance at Peyton Manning’s event the next evening. He was dj’ing at Subterranean, which I now understand is below the Red Eye Cafe. Since I am from New York, I didn’t know that at the time, so I just had Erin let me out in the general area where my manager told me the club was. I saw alot of people outside and some fans recognized me, said “hi” and asked me what I was doing in Indiana. I talked to them for a few seconds and continued into the Red Eye Cafe, where I presumed my manager to be.

As soon as I entered the threshold of the building, a police officer rushed me and started pushing me out of the doorway. I immediatly put my hands in the air and stated, “There’s no problem. I’m just here to get a check”. The officer then grabbed my arm and kept pushing me to the nearest parked car. Other officers arrived at the scene. I tried to ask the officer what was going on and why was he doing this to me. I asked in a very calm manner. The officer would not tell me if or why I was being arrested, or why he had pushed me. Shortly thereafter, Erin Hanner arrived from where she had been waiting in the car and asked what was going on. I told her I didn’t know, and that officers rushed me for no reason as I was entering the building. At this point I believe I am being arrested. Erin Hanner was taking my possessions out of my left pocket as the officer was in my right back pocket looking for my I.D. The officer did not mind my interaction with the mother of my sun. Erin Hanner kept asking the officer what I had done and why they had me in custody. She asked if she could take me home. At this point the Officer pushed me to the ground. I tried to get up and was tackled again to the ground. I started to become frightened of the officer’s actions and my wrongful arrest and at the point became argumentative. As I sat on the ground, handcuffed, I told Erin Hanner to get all of the officers names, badge numbers, and license plates. I told the officers that they were wrong, I was not there to party, Ii am a successful hip hop artist who was there picking up money to support my family, and that they had no reason to arrest me, and I was going to sue them. I continued repeating this louder and louder. I feared retaliation from the officers for my yelling and again told Erin Hanner to get the information from them.

At this point I see my manager standing on the curb. I yelled at him also because he was the reason I came downtown into what was now a chaotic situation. I admit I did become loud and argumentative but this was not until I was being wrongfully arrested and treated unjustly. I realized I was overreacting anyway and accepted the situation for what it was and sat quietly until they transported me to the jail. When the transporting officer came I went with him willingly and peacefully.
